Cascais / Portugal

Guincho

Open beach, wind, Atlantic power and a wide setting between mountain and ocean.

Spot notes

Photographing surf in Guincho

Guincho has its own visual identity: dunes, mountain, wind and Atlantic lines. It is a demanding beach, excellent for aerial maneuvers and images with scale.

Conditions

Northwest swell and low-wind mornings create the cleanest windows. The wind often rises through the day.

Photo angle

The many beach accesses allow long compositions, backlight and frames with the Sintra mountains.

These notes are guidance only and do not replace local assessment, experience or ocean safety rules.

Sessions

Surf photographer in Guincho: how it works

Guincho picks up almost every Atlantic swell, with the Sintra hills closing the frame. It is the most exposed spot around Cascais: with strong nortada the session moves to another hour, so I always confirm the window the day before.

I shoot from the beach with a telephoto lens, so nothing changes for you: surf as usual and I take care of the rest. We agree on the spot and time the day before, based on the swell, wind and tide forecast.
